A peplum is a flared ruffle attached to the waistline of a dress, skirt, jacket or blouse. It has been popular a few times in history including Elizabethan times, the 40’s and the 80’s.
This season it has made a comeback as it was seen in the runway looks of Zac Posen, Giles, Dior, Alexander Mc Queen, Jason Wu and Vera Wang.

Stars such as Emma Watson, Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman have been sporting the trend, and if you ask me, I think they look elegant and chic. If you decide you like this very feminine trend I have 3 tips on how to wear it:

  1. Avoid pastels, patterns and stick to neutral colors such as black, grey and beige.
  2. A short peplum skirt looks more up to date.
  3. Do not "excessorize"! You are already making a statement with the peplum so keep everything else understated.
